Back in the early '80s, Ari Hoeksema was filling a swimming pool when he noticed the water looked rather grey. He had just sold his business and had time on his hands, so he decided to do some research. “I went to the library at the U of A,” says Ari. “The girl there gave me a book called the Choice is Clear. It took only about 15 minutes to read it, and I ran out of the library and said 'I’m going into the water business.'”
The book discussed the effects of water on our health and the health problems that can be the result of poor water. After reading that book, Ari found his passion and combined it with his business experience to improve the health of people through better water. After a brief stint working for another water systems company, he went on his own and started Home Water Systems Inc in 1984. “I’ve been in business since I was a kid,” he says. “If the old grim reaper comes by and takes me off this planet, I’m at peace with it because there are thousands of people living a better life because of me.”
