Trina and Dave Brosseau noticed a lack of quality southern restaurants in Edmonton and, having tired of working in the oilfield industry, decided the best way to remedy that was to open their own place. “Our goal was to bring a southern flavour to the north,” says Trina. But if they were going to do it, they wanted to do it right. They partnered with their friend Bruce St. John who travelled to Missouri to study under world famous pit master Mike Mills. By 2013, That Bar-B-Q Place was set to open.
The trio had lived most of their lives in Sherwood Park, so it made sense to open there. Trina and the gang know people have other options than That Bar-B-Q Place, but she likes how the community supports local entrepreneurs. “We appreciate every customer,” says Trina. “In order to offer something better you have to have customer service. So we spend a little bit of time educating people and a little bit of time having a couple of laughs.”
That Bar-B-Q Place does mostly takeout but you can sit and enjoy a big family platter or tasty sandwich if you like. They also cater, bringing their mouth-watering food to weddings, parties and even tailgaters before the big game.
