Many of those who are happiest in their careers came to them haphazardly: a new opportunity can open up that awakes old passions or a hobby can turn into a way to make a living. Such was the case with Chris St. Louis, owner of L’amour du vin, an on-site custom brewery located in Dunbar.
During his post-secondary studies, Chris took a leave from his engineering degree to study boat building. This brought him into contact with a few students engaged in beer brewing, and Chis joined the crowd, also branching out from hops to wine and cider. With the brewing still a hobby, he finished his engineering degree and went on to work in that field for about a decade.
A happy exit from the business left him with options and he had an inkling to get into the cider business. An acquaintance suggested that he buy a place to ferment and brew on site and so Chris purchased L’amour du vin. “I turned a hobby into a full-time job,” he says. “It was an odd, long road.”
