My husband and I were recently at the Mill Cafe for lunch with a few friends from out of town. We have been local to the area, but had not been in since the restaurant was renovated. The decor was delightful and vibrant, with unique artwork covering the walls. We were pleasantly greeted by our server who encouraged us to sit wherever we pleased. The menu was fun and fresh and we found it extremely difficult to have to choose from all the delicious items. Our lunch arrived very quickly, and we were more and more pleased with every bite. IT WAS EXTRAORDINARY! We felt very welcomed by both serving and kitchen staff (as this is an open concept restaurant) and we will gladly be back again! ... and again!
My wife and I recently went into the Mill Cafe for dinner with our parents and ordered a couple different appetizers to share and each tried a different entree. We also were lucky enough to be there on a Thursday, which is $5 Creemore Pint night, which my father and I took advantage of! The appetizers came out promptly just after some delicious artisan bread was brought to our table. We ate, laughed, drank and carried on and our server - a shy but hospitable young girl was contributing to our conversation and definitely keeping the laughs going. Our entrees came out shortly there after and we all enjoyed everything. We ordered cappuccinos and dessert and probably stayed longer than we should have but were not felt to have overstayed our welcome. The staff (including the kitchen staff) was courteous and ushered us out. We will definitely go back again!!!
We were told that we can sit anywhere on the patio, but after sitting down confortably we saw a party of 2 moved to the patio who obviously knew the staff very well. We were told to move to a different seat. This kind of thing doesn't really sit well with my friend and I, we wanted to go out to a different restaurant, but we decided to stay. We order a cafe latte but it came cold. so we decided to cancelled the cafe latte. We were told that Spanish Paella was on special so we ordered the paella plus salmon ladder Salmon with corn pudding. The paella came as a white rice soup and instead of using Spanish Chirozo Sausages they used italian sausages. A PAELLA should be a yellow rice with Chirozo sausages. I was even given a soup spoon to be used by the waiteresse. Salmon Ladder Salmon came with corn from the Can instead of a proper corn pudding. We ate at a lot of different Mill restaurants. but this one is the worst. We won't go back there.
Called for a reservation on a Thursday for Saturday night, well before we left city the next day. When we got there on this particular Saturday, we stood and waited at the door for quite sometime before someone finally came over. Initially we had asked for a table to be held on the patio so we could enjoy eating outdoors. We were told that it was full and that we had the option to sit at the patio bar at the front (where there is construction right in front) or sit inside. We chose to sit inside because we were told when the next table came up on the patio we would be moved. 10 minutes later we saw a party of 3 moved outside who obviously knew the staff very well. This kind of thing doesn't really sit well with my wife and I, all we made was a simple request. Not to mention the service was extremely slow, we would have been better off buying a bottle of wine because it took far too long to have our wine replenished. The food was mediocre, nothing that I would rave about. Had high hopes for this place but was rather disappointed, we will stick with other places in town that we've had far better experiences with.
I had a great experience at this restaurant. My parents and I are doing a no-carb diet to lost some weight before March break so we had very limited choices anywhere we went. We simply ordered a caesar salad for each of us, and then i ordered a full order of mussels. My mussels were easily the best mussels i have ever had. I love my seafood, and this was just incredible. The sauce was a white whine cream with black bean. The dish had the perfect amount of Onions, Leeks, and the amount of mussels was absolutely perfect. i did not get sick from them which means they were cooked to perfection. The service was a little bit slow, but it wasn't slow to the point where we would consider walking out. Overall, this was a very pleasant experience and i plan to return shortly. It was forsure worth the drive from the blue mountain village.
Loved it! We enjoyed our dinner on the patio overlooking the river. Great to find a restaurant that is so supportive of local farmers and that uses such fresh ingredients. Loved the trout and the fab steak frites! mushrooms on toast with creamed corn? Who knew it would be so delicious.
it was our annivwersary & so we probably spent more than we needed but to but we did enjoy ourselves. it was a good selection of food overall. the wine list contained a spelling error which did not impress me because they did charge enough for the wine & spellcheck is on every program. the wine was very good. i had the steak & feta salad with honey dijon mustard for the dressing. they put so much on it was like gravy to me. my wife did not like her choice as an entre`. & did not finish her meal . it was a shrimp & lobster entre` . the sweet pea flafall was very tasty as an appetizer. the dessert was very good.
I have often wanted to stop here during the warmer weather and sit outside overlooking the dam, but sitting inside on December 27 was also welcome. Took a little longer than it should have to be located by someone to seat me, but I get the idea he was new. Being alone I was willingly placed at a small table in the bar section, and the slate of specials was propped up right beside me. That drew my eyes away from the fish and chips on the menu to the 'small' special of the day, a venison stew. It was listed as coming with garlic which was a bit of an understatement, there were about a dozen huge fried cloves. Fortunately these were not mixed into the stew itself but rather heaped at the base of the slice of toasted bread protruding from the centre of the bowl, which leaves one the option (which I took) of segregating it. From first spoonful to the last the stew was excellent, well worth the $8. The wine list was extensive for the size of the establishment, but only providing 2 Ontario selections seems inadequate. Ditto for the beer available, I am a great believer in supporting local products. I plan on returning in the spring or summer to try the patio, should be a pleasant experience.
The place was packed. People must frequent The Mill for the awesome food and terrific service. We will drop in again the next time we pass through Thornbury.
What a great restaurant. The food was very tasty and the service was excellent.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch served by a very pleasant gal. The salads were very good with lots of tasty crunchies.
We hadn't eaten at The Mill for awhile and had forgotten what a great restaurant it is. Everything we ordered was very delicious....lots of interesting tastes. We will be back to sample more of their menu.
Our first visit to Thornbury for dinner, no reservations made, Saturday night 6:30. We were actually looking for something quieter that night, but we made a mental adjustment & stayed: definately not disappointed. Mostly open bistro style, an urban vibe to the place, nice varied menu. Place gets pretty lively, not noisy but enjoyable, civilised crowd, no kids. Seems to be a go-to place for local artists to display work, very nice addition. Our server was new & not confident, but got help at one point. Food arrival time to table was a tad slow, nothing major. Main dishes were the best fish we both had had in a while, excellent preparation & presented well, hot and very tasty. Will go back in the spring & bring friends.
