Monjeloco Jeans in St. Albert chooses products that make their customers’ backsides look good. They dub their unique design as “lift-the-butt” jeans, and they have become known around the world for it. Nora Furber started the company in 2012. She was born in Colombia, but has lived in St. Albert since the 1980s. Whenever Nora would return to St. Albert from a visit to South America, she always received compliments on the jeans she brought back. This sparked an idea to sell them here.
But while Nora's vision had to be put on hold to focus on her family, the spark was never extinguished. Once her kids were grown, Nora saw her opportunity arrive in the form of a free trade agreement between Canada and Colombia. “I started designing the jeans and got in touch with a factory in Colombia that employed single moms,” she says. “I felt we had a lot in common.” She is very proud to help women in her home country, as the growing success of her Monjeloco Jeans brings tangible benefits to their lives.
