For Espace Tricot co-owners Melissa Clulow and Lisa Di Fruscia, knitting is all about community. The two friends and business partners met in 2009 at a knitting circle. “I had just come back from many years in Germany to a job here in Montreal where I could work from home and be with my kids, but it was isolating,” explains Melissa. “So my mother taught me to knit and then I went to my first knitting circle, and that’s where I met Lisa.”
Lisa thought she’d learn to knit during her pregnancy, but that never happened until her baby was 18 months old. “I used to have to drive him around for him to nap during the day,” recalls Lisa, “and I always passed this yarn store down in Saint-Henri. One day, I decided I was going to learn how to knit.” Lisa took some lessons and was hooked. Soon, she was knitting whenever she had a spare moment. Then, she went to her first knit-night and met Melissa. “We hit it off as soon as we met,” says Lisa.
